An Evening of Classical Guitar in New Preston | Kenneth Meyer, is the first-prize winner at the Music Teacher's National Association Collegiate Artist competition. "The Washington Post" describes Meyer as, "A thinking man's guitarist - he focuses on the inner structure of a piece...and plays with impressive gravity and power." "The Buffalo News" has called him, "Impeccably articulate with superb technique." Meyer will perform works of Bach, Rodrigo, Barrios, and New Milford composer Gregory Mertl. The program will be at New Preston Congregational Church, 15 Church Street, New Preston, CT. Suggested donation of $10. |

February Organ Fete "2, 3, 4, 5" at Wesleyan University | The music of Maurice Durufle will be featured at Memorial Chapel, Wesleyan University, High Street, Middletown. Maurice Durufle Opuses Two through Five. Wesleyan University Organist and Artist-in-Residence Ronald Ebrecht plays the Scherzo (Opus 2) and Brian Parks performs the Prelude, Adagio, et Choral Varies sur Veni Creator (Opus 4) and the monumental Suite (Opus 5). The daunting and rarely performed Prelude, Recitatif et Variations, opus 3, for Flute, Viola and Piano will receive its Wesleyan premiere, by Hartford Symphony Orchestra first chair players Greig Shearer, flute, Michael Wheeler, viola, and the virtuoso Turkish pianist Erberk Eryilmaz. Immediately following in Zelnick Pavalion, Mr. Ebrecht will sign copies of his biography "Maurice Durufle, 1902-1986, the Last Impressionist" and his new book "Cavaille-Coll's Monumental Organ Project for Saint Peter's, Rome: Bigger Than Them All" in the Zelnick Pavilion, sponsored by Broad Street Books. Celebrating 125 Years - the 1886 Steere & Turner Organ, New Preston | The New Preston Congregational Church, at 15 Church Street in New Preston, presents a wonderful 125th anniversary celebration of their 1886 Steere & Turner Tracker Organ. It was postponed by the unexpected Winter Storm Alfred in October! It has been rescheduled with Barbara Owen, AGO/OHS representative. She will present the history of the organ. Jason Roberts will then present a recital on the instrument. Full program and attendance at a catered "Meet the Artists" reception for $25/person. Concert is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10/person or $20/family. Proceeds to benefit the continued maintenance of this historic organ.
